to the Southwest Eagles
The 2010 Winter Fest proved to be a fun filled day with many varied family activities.
There was an all day 3x3 tournament for Squirt and Pee Wee aged players run by Joel Marshall and the Verona Boys HS Hockey team.
The Pancake Breakfast was very well attended by SW and other hockey families participating in the 3x3 tournament. Thanks to Mike O’Brien (head chef and organizer) for planning the Pancake Breakfast and all the volunteers and participants who came out to get their fill of pancakes and sausages. Mike and crew served $839 worth of pancakes from this event.
Starting at noon we had the kick off of the 1st Annual SW Chili cook-off. We had (10) crock pots of chili, with (8) Southwest families and Culver’s of Verona providing a chili in the contest. Special thanks to the SW families that sent an entry. The contest resulted in a 3 way tie for first place. The Ritter (Chili #2), Borgerding (Chili #5), and Craft (Chili #4), family’s entries each had (8) votes for favorite chili. We were able to sell essentially all the chili provided, so please consider either sending an entry or coming to eat some chili for next year’s event. We were able to raise $352 from this event.
Even though the weather did not cooperate to allow for the planned outdoor ice skating and fire pits, the indoor festivities were in full swing from 7:00 to 11:00 pm. We had skaters and families of all ages present for the NYE festivities. Thanks to Mark and Bev Jones for organizing the evening event and all the volunteers who helped out on and off the ice to make the event a reality.
Included in the event was a SW raffle table, music, various on-ice games, including fastest skater contests, puck relay races, simon says, and ice dice games with prizes for the kids. The evening ended with a massive game of tag which surely tired out all the participants to ensure a good nights sleep to ring in the New Year.
We look forward to hosting this event next year, so save the date and plan to have fun again next New Year’s Eve.
